Moliere's Comedy - The Misanthrope

In this sparkling new version of Molière’s classic comedy, Martin Crimp brings the misanthropic Alceste into the world of Hollywood Stars, London Agents, the Gutter Press and the Savage Critic. Here, in a luxury of superlative language and wit, he rails against the vain, the shallow and the superficial, who inhabit the world of his all too young amour – the film star Jenny.

Whether he finally accepts or rejects the society which he so vehemently detests can be found in a dénouement in which Crimp’s contemporary version brilliantly marries the world of Molière and our own.
